Sheeran by Lowden and MatchMySound Launch Music Learning App in Celebration of Ed Sheeran’s North American Tour Success
Sheeran by Lowden introduced Ed Sheeran’s North American tour ticket holders to an exclusive interactive music learning app, powered by MatchMySound, that enables music makers to play or sing along to Sheeran’s song “Perfect” and receive guided feedback on their performance.
Northern Ireland (10th October 2023) – Northern Ireland guitar maker Lowden Guitars, makers of the Sheeran by Lowden range of guitars, have joined up with US-based music edtech company MatchMySound to celebrate the success of Ed Sheeran’s North American tour this summer where he played to record-breaking audiences across the US and Canada. Concert attendees have been given a free opportunity to continue to be inspired by the globally loved singer-songwriter by learning to play his song ‘Perfect’ using a music learning app that offers music makers guided feedback on their own performance.
“We are delighted to be partnering with MatchMySound to inspire more young musicians to play or sing along with Ed on one of his best-known songs. Over a million fans have been inspired by his shows across North America this summer as they were treated to a fully immersive celebration of the artistry and talent of Ed Sheeran. We look forward to continuing to inspire fans even after the tour has concluded by giving them the opportunity to play like Ed,” said David Ausdahl, Managing Director of Lowden Guitars.
“Sheeran by Lowden was developed because Ed Sheeran and Founder George Lowden both saw a need to inspire young players to pick up the guitar. Designed around their shared vision of creating quality guitars with great playability, tone and accessibility for aspiring musicians, Sheeran by Lowden guitars have been embraced by young players globally who have been inspired by his performances to take up the instrument.”
Mathematics Tour concert goers have been given access to the app via point-of-sale postcard gifts during his North American shows. The app features MatchMySound’s unique note-by-note matching algorithm that listens to music makers play or sing along to a demo of Ed Sheeran’s song “Perfect” and gives them a score and guided feedback on the accuracy of their pitch, rhythm, and notes.
Commenting on the partnership with Sheeran by Lowden, Steve Freeman, VP of Business Development and Artist Relations at MatchMySound said, “Our team is honored to be collaborating with Sheeran Guitars on this music-learning experience to engage fans with Ed’s music even after his North American tour has ended.
“Our company is focused squarely on expanding innovative and engaging music learning opportunities for more and more people, so this joint venture gives us all the perfect chances to do just that. We look forward to hearing performers’ feedback as they learn Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ and hope to share this interactive learning experience with even more fans in the coming months.”

ABOUT SHEERAN BY LOWDEN
Developed to encourage aspiring musicians and help those with an interest in guitars gain access to high-quality instruments, Ed Sheeran and world-renowned luthier George Lowden have created a brand of guitars which pairs the world-class craftsmanship that goes into each Lowden guitar with the Sheeran name.
The Sheeran by Lowden acoustic guitar range features eight individual models across two small body sizes familiar from the Lowden range, known as the S and the Wee Lowden, both played by Ed himself. The guitars have been designed by George Lowden for the player, with special features and careful choice of wood species including sustainably-sourced, naturally fallen trees and reclaimed Spruce, for uncompromising tone and playability. Ed Sheeran has also released six special limited-edition Sheeran by Lowden guitars to date.
Sheeran by Lowden is a natural progression from the existing friendship and vision shared by Ed Sheeran and George Lowden. One of Lowden’s most popular guitars, the Wee Lowden, was designed in 2013 by George Lowden at the request of Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody as a gift for Sheeran. Following receipt of his Wee Lowden, Sheeran has built a personal collection of Lowden guitars which appear on stage with him often, including Lowden’s electric guitar, the GL-10.
Speaking on his own experience, Sheeran who has previously acknowledged the decline in young people pursuing music said: “There are fewer guitar bands and fewer artists using guitars now, and not as many kids picking up guitars. That is something I would like to change by getting these great quality guitars, made in Ireland, into kids’ hands and encouraging them to learn and progress. To be able to work in tandem with a guitar company like Lowden to create a whole different concept has been a really cool experience.” Reflecting on their close friendship and partnership, George Lowden said, “We have been honoured over the past years that Ed has chosen to play Lowden guitars both on-stage and in the studio. We are delighted to have established a close ongoing relationship through our collaboration on Sheeran by Lowden.”
To ensure that the Sheeran by Lowden brand continues to deliver Lowden’s high-quality craftsmanship with an approachable and accessible ethos, George Lowden developed new production methodologies featuring aerospace engineering to create custom tooling required for these innovative methods. The result is a production system that is unique on the world stage, able to build quality and innovate new Sheeran by Lowden at scale. The guitars are produced in a bespoke production facility at Lowden’s workshops in County Down, Northern Ireland, highlighting Lowden’s and Sheeran’s commitment to supporting local skills development, innovation and manufacturing by ensuring the instruments are produced in Northern Ireland.
